Crystal Hudson Stands With Working People

  • On Good Jobs and Worker Power

Crystal has been a consistent champion for union labor and fair wages. She’s fought for project labor agreements, supported local hiring goals, and backed enforcement of prevailing wage laws on publicly funded projects. Crystal knows that strong unions are essential to building a stronger, more equitable city — and she’s never wavered in standing with working people.

  • On Infrastructure and Community Investment

Crystal has delivered millions for capital improvements across Brooklyn — from school renovations, to park upgrades, and investments in public housing and infrastructure. She’s advocated for smart growth that prioritizes community needs and puts skilled union workers at the center of every project.

  • On Equity in the Trades

Crystal is a vocal advocate for workforce diversity and opening doors to career pathways in the skilled trades. She supports apprenticeship programs that create good-paying jobs and long-term careers — especially for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers who have historically been excluded from these opportunities.

  • On Housing That Works for All

Crystal has fought to protect tenants, preserve affordability, and ensure that new development meets community needs. She’s pushed for stronger accountability on housing projects and supports leveraging city dollars to deliver both housing and union jobs.

Crystal Hudson

Democrat for City Council

District 35

Crystal Hudson is a proven leader, public servant, and advocate for working families, serving as the Council Member for Brooklyn’s 35th District, which includes Crown Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Prospect Heights. A third-generation Brooklynite and one of the first out gay Black women elected to the New York City Council, Crystal brings lived experience, policy expertise, and deep community roots to every fight.

Before public office, Crystal built a career in public service and organizing. Her journey into advocacy was shaped by her experience as the primary caregiver for her mother, who battled Alzheimer’s. That experience informed her fierce commitment to making city services more accessible and responsive — especially for aging New Yorkers and caregivers.

In the Council, Crystal has delivered for her district and beyond. She introduced more legislation than any other Brooklyn freshman in her first term, including the #AgeInPlaceNYC package, measures to address Black maternal mortality, and bills expanding LGBTQIA+ protections. She authored “A Black Agenda for New York City,” laying out a policy vision grounded in equity and opportunity.

Crystal has been a strong partner to organized labor, advocating for union jobs, local hiring, and equitable access to careers in the trades. She understands the power of a project labor agreement, supports responsible development, and believes that every public dollar should deliver both community benefit and good jobs. Whether she’s pushing for school upgrades, holding developers accountable, or fighting for more affordable housing, Crystal ensures that Brooklyn’s growth includes opportunity for all.

As Chair of the Council’s Aging Committee and Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus, Crystal Hudson is leading with clarity, compassion, and courage.
